Southeastern Kentucky Rehabilitation Industries Incorporated in Niche Business Directory

SEKRI was established in 1971 for the purpose of serving persons with disabilities (i.e. mental, physical, emotional deficiencies). The best vehicle to accomplish this mission was to create a manufacturing setting enabling these persons to obtain gainful employment. Operating out of a 5000 square foot building, SEKRI sub-contracted work from the 7-UP Bottling Company as well as performing other services, woodworking and upholstery work. Moving to a larger facility in 1984, SEKRI made a decision to create jobs though the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Program. The organization that helped establish this effort was the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped (NISH). NISH is SEKRI’s largest partner and continues to research other contracts for the Community Rehabilitation Programs (CRP’s) In 1993, SEKRI moved to its present site utilizing a new 30,000 square foot facility located in the Tri-County Industrial Park. SEKRI is a major participant in special programs including: Welfare to Work, Work Release, Workforce Investment Act and various state Vocational Rehabilitation Programs. Over the past 31 years approximately thousands of individuals have been served. Many have gone on to receive some form of formal education.
